Demon Born Breathing Styles Guide

Demon Born breathing styles guide covering Thunder, Water, and Insect unlock quests, trainer locations, mastery training, tier rankings, and Slayer combat tips.

Breathing Styles in Demon Born

Breathing styles are the core combat system for the Slayer route in Demon Born. Press H during fights to activate forms, spend stamina on skill chains, and recover breathing gauge between combos. Every Demon Born breathing styles guide in early beta covers the same three options: Thunder Breathing, Water Breathing, and Insect Breathing. More styles may arrive in future updates, but these three carry Slayer progression today.

Unlike blood demon arts on the Oni path, breathing styles unlock through trainer quests rather than gacha spins. You choose one style at level ten and commit to its quest chain, minigames, and boss fights. If you are still learning controls or have not picked Slayer yet, read the Demon Born beginner guide and Demon Born Slayer guide before starting a breathing unlock.

Tier Rankings: Thunder, Insect, and Water

Community tier lists rank Thunder Breathing and Insect Breathing at S-Tier for Slayer damage. See the full rankings on the Demon Born tier list and reference tables on the Demon Born wiki.

StyleTierStrengthUnlock Difficulty
Thunder BreathingSHighest burst combo output; default pick for Final Selection and Hand Demon attemptsHard — posture minigame + meditation clicking + multi-player Lower Moon boss gate
Insect BreathingSPoison damage over time; strong against tanky NPCs and bosses that outlast burst windowsMedium — tatami minigames inside eastern training hall
Water BreathingAReliable combo chains; most forgiving for learning Q Dash and F Defense timingEasier — meditation minigame + log-balance objective near the river

Level Ten Gate and Finding Trainers

You must reach level ten before any Demon Born breathing styles trainer accepts you. Early Tokai quests, ice cave farming, and snow biome enemy clears are the standard path to that gate. Once eligible, press U to toggle Quest Indicators and reveal breathing trainer markers across the open world.

Water Breathing Unlock Steps

Water Breathing begins by talking to the water trainer NPC once you hit level ten. After minigame phases, progression requires defeating the water Hashira boss NPC and a demon tied to that style quest line.

StepTaskDetails
1Meditation minigameRhythm clicking — hit enough points before the timer ends; missed inputs may require restarting
2Log-balance questInteract with trunk beside the river; keep character centered until objective completes
3Hashira + demon fightsBring upgraded gear, fish or stamina consumables, and a friend if solo damage feels low

Thunder Breathing Unlock Steps

Thunder Breathing training starts at the ex-Hashira trainer on the mountain left of the map marker. Follow the lightning icon with U active until you reach the elderly thunder mentor.

StepTaskDetails
1Posture minigameTatami mat beside trainer house — commonly described as a one-hundred-point reaction challenge
2Meditation clickingHigher point target, often around two hundred; fast accurate clicks matter more than raw speed
3Thunder trainee bossRoughly seventeen hundred health in community testing at early gear levels
4Lower Moon drum demonWidely reported as a multi-player fight during beta; solo attempts often fail until higher level

Insect Breathing Unlock Steps

Insect Breathing unlocks inside the eastern tatami training hall. Because each breathing path runs on its own quest track, you cannot finish Insect minigames while an unfinished Water or Thunder chain is active on the same character.

StepTaskDetails
1Tatami minigamesTalk to insect-style NPCs and complete indoor minigames on the mats before boss phases
2Hashira-tier NPC fightSame broad pattern as other styles — trainer minigames first, then Hashira fight
3Theme demon encounterPoison damage from Insect forms helps during sustained boss phases that follow

Breathing Mastery and Skill Tree

Unlocking a breathing style is only the first step in Demon Born Slayer progression. Open the skill tree from the M menu and invest points into the breathing branch for your chosen style. Additional forms unlock at level milestones, with community paths showing all forms available by breathing level thirty.
